SHMS

Queensland, Australia

SHMS Services

An effective Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) is a dynamic system; when implemented it ensures risks to coal mine workers is at an acceptable level and aims to improve safety and health standards of the workplace continuously. Mine Training Solutions believes protecting the safety and health of coal mine workers and persons who may be affected by coal mining operations is of extreme importance.  A well-developed and implemented SHMS is crucial to achieving this. MTS provides services to establish and implement the mines SHMS.

Auditing Services

An Audit is a process of systematically examining documents and records to sufficient depth to verify whether the system meets the established criteria.  All audits are conducted by an Internationally Qualified Lead Auditor and Co-Auditor.

Compliance Audits

Determining additional regulatory requirements of the Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 and Regulation 2017.

Effectiveness Audits

An effectiveness audit involves obtaining information to determine its effectiveness; ascertaining systematic and regulatory requirements have been implemented in the activities of the workplace to achieve an acceptable level of risk.  According to ‘Guidance Note QGN09 Reviewing the Effectiveness of Safety and Health Management Systems’.

System Audits

To determine the establishment of the Safety Health Management System in accordance with the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999, Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017 and supporting information contained in Standards Australia; AS/NZS4804:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems – General guidelines on principles, systems and supporting techniques and AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems – Specification with guidance for use.

Mine Induction Program

Effectively implementing the safety health management system starts the moment a coal mine worker walks into the training room to attend the mines induction program.

Stage one of the mine site induction is to provide the coal mine worker with an overview of the mine, the risk management processes used and a summary of the safety health management system and its key components.  This can be presented as the mine site's Induction Handbook.

Stage Two is assessment against the mines SHMS.  Inductees are trained and assessed against the procedures relevant to their position on site.

MTS can build the mine's induction program including Induction Handbook, induction assessment and training materials underpinning each safety health management system procedure (PHMPs/SOPs/HMPs).

Rehabilitation & Return To Work System

Workplace rehabilitation is a strategy to maximise an individual’s potential for the return to work.  Its focus is on returning the injured worker to safe, suitable work at the earliest possible time.  When implemented effectively, there are many benefits for the injured worker and the employer.

MTS provides for the establishment and implementation of the rehabilitation and return to work  management system for workplaces.  This has been developed according to Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 and Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Regulation 2014.
